Crystals have been used and revered since the dawning of civilization
The Christian Bible refers to crystals over 200 times.
Precious stones of crystalline formation were used in the foundation of new Jerusalem(Revelations).
They were also used in the breastplate of Aaron, the Hebrew high priest.
In the Bible we learned...
"And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.
And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their enclosing.
And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings on a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes....
And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon
heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.

Prehistoric excavations of the cave burials have demonstrated the ancient peoples prepared their dead for the next world by laying sacred objects on and around them, including different stones.
It seems that these gifts of the earth have always held fascination and been used to symbolize something special.
The ancient Egyptians were skilled refining and shaping of precious stones and metal.
They regraded deep blue Lapis Lazuli as sacred, and they used it in combination with other stones, such as onyx and pure gold, to make exquisite collars, necklaces and other jewelry for the pharaohs, the higher nobility and priests.
The pharaohs were also buried wearing masks, such as the famous one of Tutankahmn, made of gold inlaid with precious stones.

King Tutankhamun's Inlaid Pectoral is just one of the items found in the boy king's tomb that is on display in a new traveling exhibit titled "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs." It features semiprecious stones like turquoise, which the ancient Egyptians associated with rebirth. Turquoise belongs to the copper carbonate family of minerals and was mined along with copper in the Sinai Desert during King Tut's reign.
